David de Gea continues to be linked with Real Madrid and many consider him the right man to inherit the goalkeeping gloves from Keylor Navas, but his current Manchester United and Spain teammate Juan Mata doesn’t think the 26-year-old should leave.
The midfielder believes De Gea is happy at Old Trafford and that he is keen to keep playing for the Red Devils.
“He gave us a lot of points during the last seasons and was player of the season for the team,” Mata told PA Sport.
“Obviously he is happy and I don’t see a reason for him to change.
“I think he is obviously committed to the club.
“He has got a contract and is obviously more than used to living England and is happy in Manchester.”
Mata praised his colleague’s talents and explained that he considers him one of the best shot-stoppers in the sport.
“He is a great person and great player,” the United No.8 said.
“If not the best goalkeeper in the world, he’s top three for sure.”
So far this season De Gea has kept 14 clean sheets in 34 Premier League appearances, the third most shutouts in the division.
